”An Bord”, 2017

Name Artist: Michael Vorfeld,
Title: ”An Bord”, 2017
Location: Cappeltor

Using two ship’s lights, hovering above the Lippe on the Cappeltor bridge, “An Bord” invokes the navigation lights of an imaginary ship: port is red, starboard green. The two navigation lights cannot keep calm: they flicker restlessly, go out, gleam powerfully one moment, feebly the next. The disconcerting visual impression is acoustically amplified by having the disruption of the river's flow become audible through an invisible loudspeaker system under the bridge.

“The current and thereby, in the figurative sense, the flow of the river is off-kilter, the imaginary ship becomes becomes an unsafe, unsettling place.”
