Jan van Munster

Brainwave, 2018

Name Artist: Jan van Munster,
Title: Brainwave, 2018
Location: Thomästraße 1, 59494 Soest

In his artistic work, Jan van Munster examines the tensions between poles: under electrical voltage; hot/cold differentials and their effects; the emotional tension among people; or, not instantly realisable, magnetic antipoles. Many years ago, he had an EEG done, and he uses certain sections of the recorded waves to produce their frequencies and amplitudes as they progress along light art objects formed out of neon or argon tubes. The artist worked with the façade of the listed building Museum Wilhelm Morgner with its Schroth Room and, following a number of conceptual simulations, arrived at this impressive piece.
