"Kaskade", 2013

Name Artist: Egill Sæbjörnsson, *1973 in Reykjavik
Title: "Kaskade", 2013
Location: Kunstmuseum Ahlen

A projection onto the new annexe of Kunstmuseum Ahlen transforms the tiered sections of the cool steel and glass building into a fascinating light sculpture. Horizontal stripes of light generate the impression of flowing movement on the barrel roofs, reminiscent of a waterfall, turbine or interlocking cogwheels. Located right by the West Gate of the industrial town of Ahlen, in immediate proximity to the little river Werse and in the middle of heavy traffic flows, the light sculpture captures the location’s specificities using aesthetic means that are simple, but all the more effective for it. The stringency of form is briefly interrupted at regular intervals by a playful animation: a little man appears in order to carry out repairs and perform maintenance work on the roof.
