Title: „FENSTER“ (WINDOW), 2021
Location: Alte Synagoge Lippstadt

The remains of the Lippstadt synagogue, built in 1852 and destroyed in the pogrom night of 1938, served various profane purposes since the 1950s after being sold to Lippstadt businessmen, including a bicycle repair shop, a warehouse and a car wash. Behind a newly built residential building like an annex, the historic building fell more and more into oblivion.
Since 2022, an initiative led by Prof. Jürgen Overhoff and Dirk Raulf has been operating the use of the former synagogue as a place of culture and remembrance. In 2022, the supporting association "Kulturraum Synagoge Lippstadt" was founded.
On the occasion of the "Night of Light Art" in 2021, Lynne Leegte reshaped one of the former arched windows of the synagogue "out of light" and installed the work where the window could be seen before its destruction. In 2022, with the help of the Kunststiftung der Sparkasse Lippstadt, the work was purchased permanently, and thus "Window" now marks every evening the location of the former synagogue, now the cultural space of the Synagogue Lippstadt.
